Darryl only attended his senior year at Sunnyside, so unfortunately many didn't get to know him.  We had P.E. class together and hit it off since he was an easy guy to get along with.  As with most classmates, you don't hear from them after graduation much and not until many years later when we happened to work together for the same company that we picked up our friendship again.  Darryl was a Software Engineer for Environmental Systems Products (ESP) who was very much respected by his fellow co-workers and was just a really cool dude!  He was an avid bicyclist and fisherman who got me started mountain biking along with a few other people from work.  Since we both enjoyed fishing, we started going on fishing trips at least a couple times a year to the White Mountains along with a few other friends from work.  We went on these trips for several years up to the point of his unfortunate fishing trip to Rocky Point.  Since I was unavailable to go on our yearly fall (October) trip, Darryl planned a deep sea fishing trip with his other friends from his church to Rocky Point.  It is on this trip that he was lost at sea doing what he dearly loved!  Darryl was one of five Tucson fishermen that lost their lives after their boat capsized, only the bodies of two others were ever found.  Darryl my tequila drinking buddy, we all miss you Bro!  May you rest in peace and thanks for being mi Amigo! - Toby

Toby - Thank you for sharing this story about your friend Darryl Holland. I remember reading about these 5 men who had this tragic event happen to them at sea in Rocky Point. I can't believe it has been 5 years now since it happened. I recall that the son of one of the men survived. Was that son Darryl's? I don't recall Darryl, but he sounds like someone I would have liked to have gotten to know, He was your friend, and I am sorry for your loss. You were obviously quite close to him. May he rest in peace.

Raquel - Darryl was never married or had any kids, he was engaged i believe at one time but put his career first so that relationship ended. There were no survivors, the son of one of the men was one of the 2 bodies recovered.
